Essential Electrical Improvements

Contractors are currently in the centre undertaking essential electrical works.

Whilst we have tried to keep any disruption to a minimum to ensure facilities remain open, we have been informed that it will be necessary to have a full centre closure for 1 week.  This closure is to complete a significant part of the works which requires a full power shut down.

The closure will take place the week commencing Monday 25th November, reopening on Monday 2nd December.

For any swimming and gymnastics lessons members, the week of missed swimming and gymnastics lessons will be added onto the end of the term, 16th – 22nd December 2024.

We are aware the question of refunds will be raised among members, however In line with our Terms & Conditions we will not be offering members a reduction in membership fees during this time.

Terms and conditions of memberships state the following:

On occasions, when necessary, maintenance is required or special events are being held, the Facilities or part thereof may be closed, or unavailable. Members will, where possible, be given fourteen days prior notice of any such closure or unavailability. If such closure or unavailability continues for fourteen days, then pro-rata refunds of Membership Fees will be available in relation to the period of closure or unavailability in excess of fourteen days and to the nature of the Facilities which are unavailable.

Whilst we understand that this may be disappointing, this is essential work to ensure the centres longevity.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Swimming Lessons Beginner Stages

We are making some minor changes to the way our beginner classes are structured within our swimming lessons programme. Currently our beginners enter at a stage 2 level, with stage 1 being used for the pre-school beginners.

Starting from today we will be gradually reintroducing stage 1 as a school age beginner class, with all pre-school children within our duckling classes.

The structure will be as follows:
• Duckling classes levels 1-4 – Pre-school children.
• Stage 1 – Beginner school age children, with no experience of lessons and/or a fear of the water working on water confidence.
• Stage 2 – Beginner school age children who are water confident working towards swimming 5M.

These changes will not affect your child’s access to a lesson, we will endeavour to ensure all children remain at the same time they are currently booked, although some teacher alterations may be necessary.

The changes should mostly go unnoticed by the children, but if you have any concerns relating to these changes, please email eastbourneleisure@lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk

Member Class Booking Charges

Please be advised in light of recent challenges with regular non-attendance, from 20th May, charges will be applied to members who are regularly failing to attend their booked classes or who are cancelling too late.  This has been our policy for many years, and we know this might seem strict, but it ensures fairness for all our members.

We are receiving an increased volume of complaints from frustrated customers who have been unable to book spaces, only to find out others who had booked did not turn up.  The charge will be for the full price of the class that was booked (typically £9.45).

Please note if you are attending multiple classes, you can swipe up to 3.5 hours ahead of your booked classes and it will register your attendance for any within that timeframe.

We understand that life can get busy, so if you can't make it to a class, please be sure to cancel in line with the policy by 9am on the day of the class to avoid charges. This way, you're not only helping us manage class availability, but also opening up spots for others who may be eager to join.

Your booking helps us shape our timetable to offer the classes you love most.  Classes with low booking numbers could be at risk of being removed from the timetable, so remember, to book your classes up to 8 days in advance on our website or 7 days in advance through our reception team.

If you have any questions or need assistance with this please email

eastbourneleisure@lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk and we'll be happy to help.

Thank you for your understanding.

Car Parking on Double Yellow Lines and Disabled Bays

Please be advised that all double yellow lined areas and disabled parking around the building are monitored, and any vehicles parking without a valid blue badge will be ticketed.  Parking in this area causes inconvenience to our disabled users and restricts access for emergency vehicles.

The car park is totally free for members, you can drive straight in and collect a token from reception to exit.

For centre users it is just £1.30 for all day parking and for non users of the centre, £3.50 for all day parking.

Thank you for your cooperation.
